HOW TO GET RID OF FATIGUE?

This is an interesting and challenging question. You come home after a busy day and extremely fatigued. As usual you should take food but you are not hungry. Let’s guess what you will do: -

1. You will lie down on the bed without changing cloth and putting off shoes.
2. You will take aspirin or similar sorts of medicine.
3. You will start reading an interesting novel or if you are fond of music you will switch on TV to find out your favorite music.
4. You will involve yourself in conversation with a jolly friend or your family members.
5. You may like to go to cinema or opera or simply go for roaming.
6. You lie on the bed and try to sleep.

Are all these techniques are in right direction to get rid of tiredness? Let’s assume that you are a clerk or accountant in an office and have to perform your duties sitting on a chair. Now we may analyze the reaction of your body keeping in view the above six methods, which are adopted to get rid of fatigue.

If you go to bed without changing your cloth and putting off the shoes, by no means, you could be able to get relaxed. You have spent eight hours working in office. You have also spent at least half an hour in reaching home from office. Your body is cramped in tight socks and uneasy dress but you are trying to relax with these delegate constrains.

In the second situation you will take aspirin etc. to get relaxed. Let’s see how these pain killer medicines affect our body.

Assume you want to move your hand; first of all there will be a thought in your mind that you want to move your hand. This desire will be communicated to the hands through your nervous system and your hand will move to obey directions of your mind. When parts of body get tired this feeling of fatigue is also communicated to the mind through nervous system. Pain killing drugs do not eradicate tiredness rather they benumb your nervous system and you will have no feelings of pain, as these feeling could not be communicated to the mind thanks dampened nerves. Let’s assume for a movement that you are inflicted with a knee injury. You have not paid heed to this injury and it gone worse. Now you are crying with pain. Doctor gives you pain killer drugs or injection. Temporarily you will feel comfortable. However, this comfort is due to dullness of your nerve system. Just bent and see your wound, which is still soaring and bleeding. The use of painkillers is just like this. These are not magic pills. No doubt you may get temporary relief but it cannot take away your fatigue permanently. This is not a cure of fatigue because nothing has been done for the organs of your body, which are tired due to overburdened or idleness. Rather it is harmful to nerve system.

Reading novel or any other interest material you may be able to divert your attention by wandering in an amusing world but will it provide a good source of rest to your body. Is it sensible to again burden your vision and mind, which are already tired and worn out? Music may be helpful to switch your attention to emerging unrest and your mind may not feel the same but the fatigue would remain unhealed. To indulge you in an interminable discussion is wonderful. It would extinguish mental stress in minutes but what to do about physical fatigue? Moreover, there exists major deficiency in it as it makes your body more fatigued. You have spent whole day doing your job in office and night is reserved for reading novel. How cruel are you? You are enemy of your own health. In 8/10 hours you have totally exhausted the potential of your eyesight. Why you are so unkind to your vision that you have penalized it for reading curved and bent lines on a piece of paper? By seeing a movie or an amusement you may increase the turbulence of your body. Again it will just do one thing; divert your attention to your real problem i.e. fatigue. Suppose you are fond of scary movies. Does watching a scary movie help reduce your fatigue? The answer is no! The effect of watching a scary movie is anxiety, sleeplessness, phobia and fear. This may worsen the situation. This is not the end of the story. It was the unanimous view point of the scientists that watching television for hours obviously isn't the best way to spend leisure time-- inactivity has been linked to obesity and heart disease. But a new study quantifies TV viewing's effect on risk of death. Researchers found that each hour a day spent watching TV was linked with an 18% greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, an 11% greater risk of all causes of death, and a 9% increased risk of death from cancer[1].

And so far as the last method is concerned, if you are too much tired it will be hard to get a sleep. Nevertheless, we assume that you were lucky enough to succeed to go to sleep but can such a sleep help reduce your fatigue. Earlier, we discussed that main causes of fatigue are two: -

1. We excessively use organs of our body and nerves; and
2. Vice verse some parts of body and nerves remained idle and get sore.
Sleep is the best way of rest and to restore your energies and freshness. We will discuss sleep in detail later but here it is suffice to say that sleep is not the ultimate source of getting rid of fatigue. From sleep only those organs of our body will be able to get respite, which are tired due to hard work but it will not good enough to the organs, which remained idle or used too little during the whole day. By the passage of time former would loose their potential. In other words, those components would get rusty just like a redundant part of an engine. It is now substantiated that to get ride of fatigue we need two things; to eliminate the ordinary fatigue caused due to daily routine work and the other is to deal with those organs of our body, which are not mush utilized in our daily routine work. For this purchase we have to adopt different methods whilst moving, eating, sleeping, working by managing our leisure times so that our whole body remained busy and a particular component is not over burdened. Before dilating upon the methods of eliminating temporary fatigue it would be appropriate if we discuss in brief the drawbacks of fatigue on our life and how it prevent us to live a happy and comfortable life as without a healthy mind and body you cannot imagine to enjoy real happiness and pleasure of life.
